Because of YouTube’s default settings, it will start playing the video whenever you open the URL where that video is located. If you’re on an internet plan with limited data consumption, this feature of YouTube can increase your monthly internet expense. Anyways, there’s an easy fix for this.
For those who use Mozilla’s Firefox
You just need to install Tube Stop Plugin, which does precisely what we want.
Step 1: Download Tube Stop Plugin and install it. There’s no need to configure anything.
Now when you would open URL of video hosted on YouTube, you would see “Click to play, courtesy of Tube Stop” message. If you want to play the video, click anywhere on the video and it will start playing.
For guys using Google’s Chrome web browser
In order to fix this issue in Google Chrome, you would have to switch some of its settings.
Step 1: Go to Chrome settings panel and toggle on “Show advanced settings.” (it’s located at the bottom)
Step 2: Under privacy section, click on “Content settings…” and then scroll down a little, under Plug-ins section switch from “Run automatically (recommended)” to “Click to play.” Click OK to save.
Step 3: Restart your browser, open any YouTube video and this time around, video won’t play automatically. You will see “Click to run Flash,” single click on it for your video to start playing.
