The new Chrome OS operated second-gen Series 5 550 Chromebooks and Chromeboxes are now available for purchase at about 100 Best Buy stores in the States and a few Dixons stores in UK.
Even though the new Chromebook features a slightly slower CPU than first-gen Chromebooks, Google says it performs three times faster. To check whether the new Chromebook is available in your area, you can follow the link below.
Above link is valid only for people living in United States. If you’re living in UK, you’d have to call Dixons and learn from them whether there is a store nearby which is selling the latest Chromebooks.
Series 5 550 Chromebook does have better specs over the last generation — it features a 1.3 GHz dual-core Intel Celeron 867 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, 12.1 inch 1280 x 800 px display, Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics and 16 GB SSD storage.
You may find the storage too low, but hey, that’s the point — Chromebooks are futuristic devices that depend heavily on the cloud. All your docs, music, videos etc. would be stored in the cloud therefore there’s not much need to have a hard disk drive. By the way, if you’re thinking of spending money on this device, make sure you have a high-speed internet connection, because this baby can consume a lot of data.
The Chromebox is somewhat similar to Chromebook in terms of the specs — it is powered by a faster 1.9 GHz dual-core Intel Celeron B830 CPU, has six USB 2.0 ports, two display ports and weighs a mere 2.45 pounds. It’s got a slim profile and since it costs just $329.99, one can consider it.
Like the first generation, the new Chromebooks come in two models — Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 3G. Wi-Fi only model costs $449.99 while the later one costs $549.99 in both online and offline stores. Anyways, if you wanna save time, you can buy Chromebooks from Amazon by following the links below.
