Virgin Interactive launched a Video Game Competition
There are a lot of myths about Gaming as a Career or Gaming as Profession, people often believe that playing video games is a waste of time and energy, however, Virgin Interactive thinks different, with $1 mln worth prizes in headset gaming they are trying to change people’s perception toward gaming as a career.
Most often Gamers show off their mastery in a video game by flaunting their high scores in that game but that is just a non-accountable number, the real mastery is proved when you beat other video gamers and come up victorious, and now there’s a way to convert it into some cold hard cash and make your skills pay. In fact Richard Branson, a pioneer developer of Virgin Interactive has decided to launch a Gaming tournament space.
The competitive Gaming tournament will run over a span of 12 months and people can win prizes including Gaming consoles, Gaming Titles, video games Accessory etc. Virgin Interactive would finance the prizes which can be go up to $1 million. That’s a huge amount!

Competitors can use their Consoles and participate from wherever they are, Xbox 360 and all it’s variants and PS3 are compatible consoles etc., one can choose among FIFA World Cup 2011, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II or God of War III and several other titles on headset gaming.
“People have been playing competitively for a very long time, ever since a guy picked up a rock and said he could throw it further than the guy next to him,” said Branson, who also visited E3 Expo where Xbox Kinnect and PS3 Move were introduced.
“In the videogame space, the competitive gaming landscape has only been open to pros and the elite players. At Virgin Gaming, our mission is similar to what Sony is doing with PlayStation Move and Microsoft is doing with Kinnect – we’re broadening the scope for everyone.” he added.
Gaming Industry is growing and now it’s time for the world to experience it in third-dimension, with Nintendo DS becoming Nintendo 3DS, stakes have become very high, it’d be relishing to see the outlook of Gaming revolutionizes in coming years.
This is not a new competition but the prize money has gone a lot higher, Zapak.com, a Gaming portal owned by Mukesh Ambani defined that “headset video games can create revenue” and every year hold IGC (Indian Gaming Championship) with prizes over INR 10 mln ($215,000).
It’s not Virgin Interactive Gaming’s first time, in 1994 Virgin Interactive Entertainment was a huge success which unfortunately got sold to French publisher Titus Software in 1999. In Spain, Virgin Play is still in operation and Branson hopes to foster that fame today.
If given a chance, would you participate in such a contest for a million bucks, could you win it in any of the games mentioned?
