[Top 5] Safe and Secure Social Networking Website for Kids

Safest Places for Kids to build their social network

If you have kids at home who use Facebook and Twitter extensively, you must know something about these social networks.

First of all Facebook has an age limit of 18 years and so does twitter which suggests that these websites are not meant kids under 18 years of age.

On Facebook, kids, in carelessness post anything sensitive like telephone number or home address which becomes a problem later from them and parents too are involved.

The best thing to do, if you can is to keep an eye on them whenever they are using internet or social networking website. A recently done survey said that nearly 3 out of 4 kids of age 14 or less had an account on some sort of social networking website, most preferred Facebook.

There are certainly many risks associated with social media; if they had not been there Facebook might not have spent thousands of dollars to create privacy setting, groups and other filters.

Risks Associated with Kids on Social Networking websites

Unknowingly, kids might post their bizarre pictures or videos on the web which may become viral of flickr or Picasa as ‘The Idiot who smelted Ice-Scream’ etc. Will it be enticing for you to see your child become popular on the web as an idiot?

Sometimes Children post their telephone number or home address which is truly very dangerous. Email Address can be spammed but your home address can receive many things other than just spam.

A handful of people on Facebook are spammers, hackers etc. they might ask for your kids’ home address and pretend to be someone of his own age. I think this a real serious issue.

Best Social Networking Websites for Kids

Togetherville is truly collaborating parents with their kids’ social networking which is important, when we know which friends our child keeps in real life – we should also have the same right on social networking website too.

This social networking website for kids enables parents to create an account for kid using their own Facebook Account, once the account is made, you decide which friends to add. For example, your kid comes to you and say, “Mum, Robbie has come to Togetherville too, please add him me”. Since you know Robbie you will add him. In this way only those can access your kids’ profiles who actually know him.

Togetherville’s target age group is 10 and one can enjoy games, videos, music, send and receive gifts etc.

What’s what?

This site is the most secure social networking website for kids, when you try to create an account on it, the website demands credit card information of your parents which has to be submitted for verification and also 3 photographs of the kid using the social network.

Since the social network is designed for kids between the age of 8 and 14, anyone whose pictures do not hold well would have their account banned permanently. Since kids cannot make friends with people beyond their age without parents’ permission.

It has almost similar features as other social networks do, like make friends, join and create groups, share likes etc.

Scuttle Pad

To sign up for Scuttle Pad kids have to provide their details but they can’t use it unless their parents approve them to. BTW, anyone can join this website but they won’t be able to post comments that are harsh. Cyber Bullying is totally turned off on this website.

When you write a sentence as a comment, the framework takes over “I’m click, click, click,” which reframe your sentence to someone below 11, so even if someone wants to throw abuses, it won’t get printed. It is a very new concept in making social networking websites healthier.

It is very engaging for kids aged 6 to 11.

GiantHello social networking website for kids has very close resemblance to Facebook and similar popular social networking website. In order to join, parents have to either verify a security number or charge one credit card with a cent.

GiantHello social network for kids have a profile page similar to Facebook Wall where other kids of his age can post. Other than that there are many fan pages of their favorite starts and music artists.

Children need to invite their friends to join by a specific code via email or in printed version for example, if you are kid on GiantHello and want to make friends with a girl next, you take out an invite printed with a unique code and hand it over to her.

When she enters the code on her network, you will be added to her network automatically. In this way, you cannot add people who you don’t know.

This website is secure kids social network and the site does all the moderation not your parents. If you want to make good friends on the network, be good to them too.

You can only post pictures and images are appropriate for you to post, if any message is detected to contain personal info that you should not post, it would be handed over to moderators who would make particular editions and submit it.

Even the pictures that you post are moderated over this network which means your kids’ pictures will not go viral or something like that in any case.

Since most of the moderation on this network is undertaken by the website administrators, parents are not disturbed constantly for approvals. It is a fine social networking website for kids.

Finals Words about Social Networking Sites for Kids

Kids are easiest to molest on internet therefore parents must pay close attention to them, use polite words, meaningful example, love and care to make them educated. Never show your angry side to them because your one abuse can make them feel not worth living, this is true.

Also, make sure that you don’t treat them like kings, treat like kids, make them disciplined by being disciplined yourself, teach them with example, create stories like there was a boy, he added someone he didn’t knew. That person creates copies of his profile etc. Would you like if any talks to your friends and have all the fun. Think like a child.

Who said there is an age limit with Facebook? I know plenty of kids on there who are not 18 and have a page and for those who use Twitter you need to be careful cause the FTC sued them for not properly protecting personel information in 2009 so who else does this and has not been caught yet? My advice shut the computers off and spend some real time with your kids before it is too late.

      Hi Susan,

I know kids who are 13, they don’t know nothing about the world but they do what facebook is, how to use it, what social games are there on facebook and what not?

Internet has certainly brought people together but i don’t think kids know much about the “real world”. Surely, they must spend time with real friends, take some hobby sport etc.
