“Nokia 5250 – Cheapest Symbian Mobile Phone”
Nokia is trying hard with it’s symbian operating system but with Android and Apple stealing the market away from many smartphone manufacturers, nokia smartphones are the worst hit.
I don’t know the reason but with Nokia 5250 – Cheapest Symbian Mobile Phone is trying to provide good touchscreen experience to middle class Indians.
I think this idea would work because 1) Nokia is a very well established brand in India and 2) at rs. 5000 – rs. 6000 no company can provide a smartphone alike cell phone. Only a feature rich phone can fit this range.
Key Specs
- TFT resistive touchscreen, 16M colors
- 3.5 mm audio jack for music
- microSD card slot, expandable up to 16GB
- 2MP Camera but without autofocus and flash
- Symbian OS, S60 rel. 5 which can also be found in Nokia 5800 and Nokia 5530
- Nokia 5250 – Cheapest Symbian Mobile Phone supports MP4/H.263 video formats and MP3/AAC+ audio formats
I feel that for people who want a branded phone with optimal features should purchase it, the other option in the same range is MicroMax W900 that comes with Windows Mobile OS 6.1 but then it costs ~ Rs. 7000
My Verdict of Nokia 5250 – Cheapest Symbian Mobile Phone
Yes the phone is very cheap and would certainly appeal to many. Nokia is the only brand who have thought of people in India and other developing countries and have provided quality cell phones for a bare minimum.
Music capabilities of the gadget would be good. I just love it, but would certainly prefer a BlackBerry or HTC over it, the rest is up to you.
Tell me frankly would you consider it purchasing Nokia 5250 – Cheapest Symbian Mobile Phone?
Update (20/11/2010) : Nokia 5250 has been released in the market and for the record, it is not the cheapest phone that runs on Symbian OS 9.5. I was mistaken, at the time of this post the phone price had not been released, its expected price was < Rs. 6000 but its current market price in India is Rs. 7991 which is far higher than expected one and the price of Nokia 5233.

Hey! I’ve read many of your articles on this site, and they are very good. I’m a bit of a dilemna, thought maybe you could help out (?)
i’m an avid reader and I read a lot of books on the laptop, but I think it’s best and safe if I do the same with an e-book reader. However they don’t come cheap ( I’m looking into the amazon kindle 3 which is about 6500). I also need a good phone with an okay cam and good music features ( Should be under 10k, and hence this phone fits the bill). Sometimes I want to ditch all these and get the latest i-touch. :-S
What do you suggest?
P.S. Sorry for the soopar long comment.
Hey Sadhana,
I think reading from a laptop or mobile phone can be really tiring. Go either for HTC smartphone because it’s ebook reader formats the text in one column so you can read easily.
The next option is to pick up a blackberry smartphone like BB 8520 that has a dedicated PDF viewer. I think there is no other mobile phone.
If you can spend 12K then Samsung galaxy Apollo is good it runs on Android and therefore ebook app come pre-installed. iPod touch is fine but infibeam pi or amazon kindle have no match for reading.
I hope you got an idea.
Here is the price list to help you.
Amazon Kindle Price in India ~ Rs. 17,999.00
Samsung Galaxy i5801 Apollo ~ Rs. 12,899.00
BlackBerry 8520 costs ~ Rs. 13,000.00
Thanks for the reply! I think I’ll get the kindle wi-fi via someone from the U.S.
Also, are you sure that Nokia 5250 costs around 5000-6000? In most other sites it is listed as 7000-7500.
I am not sure because the rates differ, it is just an estimation from my side. I don’t like Nokia smartphones at all to start with that is why i didn’t recommended you any.
And secondly, it may cost a few bucks more. in this price range rs. 5000 – rs. 6000 no smartphone is good enough.

Oh. I use a basic SE W 200i and it’s in a really bad condition right now! So I’m looking for a new phone. I want to buy it with my own money so can you suggest some other phones with similar features and in the same price range? ( A decent camera, good music)
What price range? Rs. 5000 – Rs. 6000 mobile phone??
We-ll, anything under Rs.7000 I think..
Okay Sadhna Dear,
I wandered on a few websites and came up with this list i hope you like it and it’s beneficial
You asked for a phone with Decent camera, i think nokia 5250 smartphone would be in this range only but it’s camera is without flash.
Okay, so coming to the point, if you are looking for a good smartphone in this range then there isn’t any from a good brand. Micromax W900 is the nearest.
Elsewise, for music i would recommend SE W395 but then again it has simple ear buds. Nokia 3233 is for Rs. 6800 approx. It is symbian operated gadget, i don’t like it much but that doesn’t mean it isn’t nice.
If you have used nokia before. Go for it ;D any more quesion?
Hey! Thanks for the list! I’ll let you know what I buy as soon as I do. : P
No more questions as of now, and I’ve answered your question on my blog too : P
Oh wait, I do have a question, do you review all these based on research on the internet, or do you actually see/use these mobiles and stuff?
Those phones which aren’t yet available on the internet are previewed by internet research.
I share my personal experieces with gadgets as well on this blog, see Samsung Monte S5620 review for example.
when will this phone available??????????????
It will be available by the end of October or in first 2 weeks of November. Nokia 5250 smartphone might cost somewhere around Rs. 6000 – Rs. 6500. Still it is a moderate deal.
Which 1 is better?? Galaxy 5 or Monte?? onur experience..
Galaxy 5 is good in performance and has android os whereas monte is a feature rich phone for entertainment, great music and all. depends for what you want the phone.
Please help me in choosing from samsung monte, galaxy 5. My budget is 8500. May be increased upto 12000 if there are significant benefits.
galaxy 5 is nice, fundoo phone, good in all respects. only small touchsceen & corby like looks is a problem.

Hey!
I want a phone in which i can run applications widout any prob! My java phone not letting me do dis…and range is upto 6k………..also wana kno if there’s any phone in which video chat can be done upto 10k range?
Hey Archana,
If you want a phone that supports good apps you should go for Android, as you must know it has more than 2.5 lakh application but you won’t be able to get a good Android Smartphone under Rs. 6,000/- Other option is to go for Symbian i.e. Nokia C5-03, it has OVI Store for apps.
Not too many Smartphone under Rs. 10,000/- have a secondary VGA camera but I would try and search one for you.
Any more queries?
Regards,
Rakesh
