Windows 7 operated new gadget from HP called the HP Slate is finally in the market for a price tag of $799, after making a huge buzz around the tech world and getting placed numerous times in latest tech news, the portable computer is finally available to be purchased at an HP Store for $799.

The new tablet pc has nothing much to offers than other tablets except for a few features, there is a lot of improvement from HP Slate prototype and the actual device, the expectations were quite high and the brand managed to match it.

Coming to the configuration…

The new gadget runs on Windows 7 operating system, the same version that is rendered for Personal computers and laptops, all the applications are compatible with it. The touchscreen input is 8.9-inch capacitive touchscreen (read on “what’s the difference?“) and has a high response.

Other than the dock and case that comes bundled with this device, it is powered by a 1.86 GHz single core Intel Atom Z540 processor, 2GB of RAM and 64GB SSD storage.

HP Slate has Broadcom’s Crystal HD accelerator to offer that deals with its video acceleration, it means that the high quality 1080p videos will run on the tablet without any problem so watch movies with clearer image details.

For those among you who like to use small netbooks for business purposes it offers Wacom active digitizer for taking notes that makes taking quality graphical notes quickly with ease and sets HP Slate apart from other portable computers in the market.

It has dual-cameras a rear high quality 3 megapixel camera and front-facing VGA camera for video chats etc. The rear camera is not for photography but for recording videos and video blogging probably.

Comparing it with others… deciding its fate

The new tablet pc on the block called the hp slate might face severe competition from 3 major giants apple iPad, dell streak and android operated Samsung galaxy tab, now windows is a good OS no doubt but ios4 and android are better.

The consumers don’t really aspire for a stand-along personal computer on a tablet, all new gadget developers much understand this. If they were to only use it as a computing device, they’d rather go for netbook better for business and writing purposes.

Apple iPad has a bevy of free and paid quality apps and games which entertain and attract consumers, the other two dell streak and Samsung galaxy tab are android operated which also has some 1.2 lac apps. But windows OS doesn’t seem to have dedicated apps for its gadgets so if I were to choose from these 4 options, hp slate would be placed at last.

There could be a clash of opinion between me and readers, I think there some pros of slate tablet but not as much as those in droid operating pcs. If you have something really important to favor slate do comment or main me at gptrefback [at] gmail [dot] com. You will be linked back don’t worry! :)

What is missing…?

In short there are no touchscreen dedicated applications for Windows 7, netbooks for Rs. 15000 ($338) or less can serve the same purpose, there are not many provisions for touch enabled video games.

The Final Verdict: Not worth buying, it is a drop. Not offending quality of HP, i own a HP portable computer, but hp slate isn’t something enticing. Costs $799 (Rs. 35,443). Also the price is too high. Not worth purchasing at all.

Probably, Windows 7 Tablet is good idea but for me Android works the best!
