Midnight Pool 3 – Game Review

midnight-pool-3-game-review

Midnight Pool 3 is so far – The Best Pool game for Java phones. It comes loaded with high-quality graphics, RPG style leveling system, upgrades and amazingly awesome physics that takes the game to a whole new level. If you’re an avid pool player, you’re going to play this game until you have finished it completely.

Let’s talk about the game in detail.

The Positives

Smooth Graphics & Physics

Generally you don’t find a game as good as Midnight Pool 3 for Java mobile phones. Midnight Pool 3 has smooth graphics, and truly amazing physics which makes the games very interesting. The game is good enough to make a Smartphone envy a Feature phone.

Career Mode

While you’re in Las Vegas on business, your uncle asks you for a simple favor. Before you know it, your boss’s car is stolen and your world turns upside down. Follow a trail of clues and bizarre personalities through dark pool halls, bustling bars, flashy casinos, and more, all in the hopes of tracking down the missing car and becoming the best pool player in Sin City.

At all locations you would encounter several bizarre personalities who won’t let you off the hook without a game of pool, or two. At each location you would have to beat the other guy in a game of 8 Ball US, 9 Ball, 8 Ball UK and one custom game that is variable.

Winning games bring in experience and money; experience increases your levels and unlocks new locations while money can be used to upgrade your equipment, or buy power-ups that can be used in the game, in tough situations. Once you win 4 challenges at each location, you would be awarded with 5 units of a particular power-up which can be used during the career mode, or Quick play.

Tournament

Career mode ends with an interesting tournament; once you have conquered all 4 challenges at all the locations, you would become eligible to enter the tournament where you are going to face your final opponents. Don’t take them lightly, and do load up with power-ups because you’re facing the pros, not rookies.

There are 4 challenges in the Tournament, in first two, you’re gonna face a single opponent whereas, in other two, you would have to beat 3 professional pool players in one go. The Tournament is the final, and most entertaining part of Midnight Pool 3.

Quick Play & Versus Modes

If you just wanna play some pool, hit the Quick play button and start an exciting game with a computer-controlled opponent, you can choose from 8 Ball US, 8 Ball UK, 9 Ball and many other pool games. That’s not all, in Midnight Pool 3, you can also play with a friend in versus mode but for that you’d have to share the device, this game doesn’t work with Bluetooth.

Money, Upgrades & Bonuses

The RPG style leveling system of Midnight Pool 3 is absolutely fantastic; the money you earn by winning games can be spent on purchasing equipment that’s going to make a massive impact on your game. You can buy cue sticks with improved line of vision, hand gloves for additional experience and chalk for improved accuracy. You can also buy power-ups, each power-up costs a lot but comes very handy in tight spots. My personal favorite is Ball in Hand, just use the power-up and place the ball anywhere on the table.

Trickmaster

If you want to master physics of pool, hit your uncle’s crib because he’s gonna teach you the best trick shots of the game. Trickmaster levels become difficult as the game progresses and after a while it becomes very frustrating to attempt the same shot again & again. In Midnight Pool 3, Gameloft has taken care of that too, if you fail to make a trickmaster shots 5 times in a row, you can watch a demo of the shot.

The Negatives

Sound

Pool is a fast paced game, any rhythmic track would have suited this game properly but in reality, the soundtrack of Midnight Pool 3 is dismal; I’m very disappointed.

Lots of Narrative

Generally, people don’t like reading narratives, especially in a sports game. The narrative is quite long and you can’t skip the whole thing completely, though if you are bored with seeing of your opponents’ shots, you can skip them from settings menu.

Final Verdict

Without a doubt, Midnight Pool 3 is so far the most impressive pool game I have ever played on a Java phone. It is available for standard bar phones as well as touchscreen phones with impressive controls. If you’re not sure whether your phone is gonna support this game, head to Gameloft’s site for a compatibility check. From $2.99 you can purchase this awesome Pool game for your Java phone.
