Bastion: An Action-packed RPG for Gamers, available on Xbox Live/PC
Bastion is a an action RPG game developed by SuperGiant Games, it would be released for Xbox Live Arcade on July 20 and would make entry to PC platform later this year, maybe in December. The game is set up in a beautiful imaginative world where you character “Bastion” voyages a grim journey to save his world.
One of the most interesting things about Bastion is the advent of a narrator that marks each of your moves. In most stories narrator is there to narrate what the creator has programmed into it but not in this game. Here, the narrator speaks out what you are doing in the game which translates into one thing, you are writing the story of the game with your actions.
About the Makers
SuperGiant Games is a network of young developers who make visually rich games to excite players’ imagination. Bastion, which is their first gaming title is set to take you back to your childhood days when the world appeared as a fantasy.
About the Gameplay
In the first look, this game appears to be just like any other action role playing game available in the market. When I first saw its gameplay, it reminded me of Torchlight, another action role playing game but when you actually start playing this game, you begin to feel what makes Bastion stand out from the crowd.
It has beautiful hand drawn graphics which makes the game visual treat to play, although its story is like several other RPGs in market – “Your world is getting destroyed and you have to stop this apocalypse” but there are certain things like the “mysterious narrator” that in some cases adds up to your challenges.
In most RPGs narrators are to help you with the story but in this one, in Bastion narrator plays with you, makes fun of your actions and speak at rather odd moments, since it is completely unpredictable what narrator is going to speak up, the game becomes rather challenging and fun too after all you’re just a kiddo!
The narrator is very lucrative, don’t get surprised if you start responding to narrator rather than completing the challenges and objectives that have been assigned to you.
Undoubtedly, Bastion is a refreshing RPG game, after playing RPGs for a decade now, it has become very monotonous to complete mere challenges in a game, Bastion adds a new flavor to the role playing games and thus I highly appreciate the attempt of its makers.
About the RPG part of it
Don’t worry, Bastion is a little different but they have managed to stick with the basics. Like all other role playing games, this one also has several levels where you can test and upgrade your skills.
There are loads of weapons to master and several bosses to defeat, if you just can’t live without upgrading your character and experimenting with different weapons and armors then Bastion is going to be a perfect game for you.
It’s coming on Xbox Live on July 20, the PC users would have to wait till December, I know what you are feeling, the wait is too long.
The Final Word
Like the famous quote in the reading world – “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” I would like to say the same for video games, “Don’t judge a video game by its art box.”
I am not sure how much you are going to like this game but if you love playing role playing, this one is definitely worth a try. If you enjoyed Torchlight, then you are 100% going to love this one too.
Anyhow, if you are an Xbox Live user, Bastion is going to get launched 4 days from now i.e. on July 20. Keep looking for some website or offline store from where you can get this role playing game.

I’m always curious how developers are making RPGs new and unique. The active narrator sounds like a simple, but entertaining change. The art style is pretty compelling too. I’m not sure those things will be enough to make me purchase Bastion, but I haven’t seen it in action yet.
Thanks for the information, Rakesh.
i won’t be able to buy it because i don’t have an Xbox but i would definitely play at my friend’s place, i hope the storyline is good and the action sequences are cinematic.
