Atari plans to launch a “retro joystick” controller add-on for iPad

Atari is planning to launch a joystick controller add-on for the iPad under the name Arcade-Duo. It would resemble the retro joysticks that we used to play with in game parlors before gaming consoles were invented – with a red ball joystick with four buttons.

Relive the fast-action excitement of all your arcade favorites, like Asteroids, Centipede, and Missile Command. Simply connect your iPad to Atari’s Greatest Hits app for Duo, and you’re ready to share the fun with family and friends anywhere!

As of now, the only detail about it that is known to me is that it is “coming soon.” The concept of Arcade-Duo is similar to iCade which is priced at $99/- per piece, I feel Arcade-Duo would be priced a little less than iCade.

One of the key disadvantages in buying an add-on like this is that it is usable only with a few games. Purchasing it would become more sensible if developers could make suitable games compatible with these add-on.

What do you think?
